Energy Infrastructure Incentives for Zero-Emission Commercial Vehicles (EnergIIZE)
California Energy Commission (CEC)
What does it fund?
Energy Infrastructure Incentives for Zero-Emission Commercial Vehicles (EnergIIZE) provides reimbursement-style grants to infrastructure projects in California that deploy zero-emission vehicle charging and hydrogen refueling in support of medium-duty and heavy-duty commercial fleets (Class 2B and above). Funding will support the deployment and demonstration of pre-commercial and commercial charging and hydrogen refueling infrastructure within the California freight system, transit bus fleets, school bus fleets, and other transportation sectors, including off-road freight transport.
Who is eligible for funds?
EnergIIZE funding is available to commercial fleets or vehicle operators with a unique Tax Identification Number (TIN) applying on behalf of their organization. Eligible applicants include:
Entities operating medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles (Class 2B and above) in California that will own and operate infrastructure supporting these vehicles.
2. Entities responsible for engineering, construction, procurement, or project sites in California servicing medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles (Class 2B and above).
How does this program provide benefits to priority populations?
EnergIIZE funds zero-emission vehicle infrastructure projects, enabling the use of clean vehicles which emit less emissions than comparable conventionally fueled vehicles. The program may reduce criteria air pollutant and toxic air contaminant emissions within disadvantaged and low-income communities by funding zero-emission vehicle infrastructure in these communities. The also provides economic benefits by supporting jobs for manufacturing, installation and maintenance of zero-emission vehicle infrastructure, and by reducing transportation costs relative to conventionally fueled vehicles.
Funding lanes may have specific low-income and/or disadvantaged community requirements and/or evaluation criteria for project eligibility.
How do I access funds?
EnergIIZE funding set-asides will utilize a competitive application process and tiers of readiness criteria. Refer to the program website for additional information.
Funding timeline
EnergIIZE funding set-asides will launch at various times throughout the year, with the main funding set-aside anticipated to launch in March and October 2025.
There may be additional funding set-asides (in collaboration with the California Air Resources Board’s Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project) targeting transit buses and drayage trucks.
Refer to the program website for additional information.
