What does it fund?
Installation of climate-friendly, ultra-low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant technologies in newly constructed and existing supermarkets. Funding is also directed towards refrigeration system retrofits in existing supermarkets, replacing high-GWP refrigerants with lower-GWP refrigerants.
Who is eligible for funds?
California businesses or owners or operators of a retail food facility.

Higher application scores are awarded to projects that are located within disadvantaged and low-income communities.

Funding timeline
This program is now accepting applications through the online application portal. Through FRIP, CARB is investing $38.5 million for climate-friendly refrigerants in California commercial and industrial refrigeration facilities. Applicants can submit applications for the first application window from October 14, 2024 to January 31, 2025.
