What does it fund?

Community-driven, collaborative projects that integrate a variety of California Climate Investments project types within a five-square mile area to create transformative change at the neighborhood level, and planning activities to prepare disadvantaged communities for future funding opportunities that align with these objectives.

Who is eligible for funds?

Community-based organizations, local agencies, nonprofits, philanthropic organizations and foundations, faith-based organizations, coalitions or associations of nonprofits, community development finance institutions, community development corporations, joint powers authorities, and Tribal governments.

How does this program provide benefits to priority populations?

For Implementation Grants, the majority of the project area must comprise census tracts within the top ten percent of disadvantaged communities by CalEnviroScreen ranking, with the remainder of the project occurring within disadvantaged or low-income community census tracts. For Planning Grants, all census tracts must be disadvantaged communities. TCC projects must demonstrate community engagement in all phases and maximize climate, public health, environmental, workforce, and economic benefits to communities.

Apply through a statewide competitive process.

Funding Timeline

  • Mid-November 2022: Release of Round 5 Draft Guidelines for 30-day public comment period

  • November – December 2022: Round 5 Guidelines Workshops

  • February – March 2023: Round 5 Final Guidelines, NOFA, and Application

  • Summer 2023: Round 5 Applications Due
