With $20,262,000 from CalSTA’s Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP), the Tulare Cross Valley Corridor Zero-emission Bus Expansion Project is supporting the development of the long-planned east-west Cross Valley Corridor mixed freight and passenger bus and rail system.
The Tulare County Regional Transit Agency is leading this project in partnership with the Kings County Area Public Transit Agency, Visalia Transit, CALSTART, and San Joaquin Joint Powers Authority. Through this project, the Tulare Country Regional Transit Agency and project partners are working to develop new multi-modal transit centers in both Kings and Tulare Counties, providing greater connectivity and mobility options for rural communities. This includes new zero-emission feeder buses which will operate along the corridor and a regional zero-emission micro transit operation that will connect north-south underserved communities to the corridor. This much anticipated transit corridor will also link to the upcoming Kings-Tulare High Speed Rail Station. This project is working to reduce vehicle miles traveled, greenhouse gas emissions, and road traffic in the region by increasing transit ridership and helping to make transit a competitive option to driving.
Senator Melissa Hurtado said of the project: “The project will help advance racial equity, support our underserved communities, and will provide our diverse populations with the ability to travel further on public transit or choose the transportation mode that best meets their needs. It will allow our senior, disabled, low-income, and minority population to choose where they want to live, because they will have the ability to travel to larger urbanized areas for employment, education, services, or to access affordable healthy foods.”
