With nearly $1 million in funds from the California Climate Investments Clean Mobility Options Voucher Pilot Program, the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI), Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA), and Pedal Movement are launching four e-bike hubs through Rancho San Pedro affordable housing’s shared ebike program, also known as the Good2Go Bikes program.
Rancho San Pedro residents lack reliable transit for errands, job opportunities and appointments and suffer severe air quality issues. A quarter of Rancho San Pedro residents reported that they rely solely on public transportation, according to a survey conducted in 2020. Seven percent reported being unable to get to work and 13 percent said job opportunities were out of reach due to lack of transportation. This project will expand resident access to economic and health opportunities by providing affordable, on-demand travel options and reducing harmful air pollution.
“We know that this community is a community that needs other alternative transportation options,” Jenny Scanlin, chief strategic development office for HACLA said during a news conference showcasing new hub East Second Street and Harbor Boulevard in San Pedro.
The Good2Go Bikes program is a four-year LACI pilot that will equip the city's 21-acre housing project with a fleet of 16 e-bikes and four e-cargo bikes. The project will also feature a portable off grid charging hub, provided by Pedal Movement, who will also maintain the fleet and offer technical support to resident riders. Participants can easily become members of Good2Go Bikes by registering online to confirm they are Rancho San Pedro residents. Registered members then obtain access codes to use with the custom app developed to support the program.
